Cedar shingle clad posh shedsCedar is a wonderful material, naturally long lasting and beautiful to look at, it has long been used to clad buildings.
It mellows to a lovely grey colour and gives a rustic look to any shed, which can be livened up with some bold paint on the windows, or complimented with natural timber throughout, the choice us yours. |

Larger posh sheds - flat roofI have often thought the problem with many large sheds is that they don't have a decent pitch to the roof, making them look neither one thing or another. One solution is to have a mono pitch roof, which enables the maximum height of the shed to be kept low without spoiling the look. Some wonderful things can be done with a flattish roof, and the shed can look either modern or traditional depending upon the details chosen. You can even go double decker with a shed below and playhouse above, or add a useful veranda.

Larger posh sheds - pitched roofA large shed with a pitched roof can give aesthetic issues. Keeping the ridge height below 2500mm for planning rules can end up giving you a low pitch, which, as I've said before, can end up looking a bit, well, ordinary really!
I have a few tricks to allow the pitch to be retained without breaching the rules. Where a higher ridge height is acceptable a substantial, well proportioned and beautiful shed results, but as one of my customers said, the word "shed' doesn't do them justice. |
